Former Manchester United midfielder Kleberson was included in the Besiktas side which is without a first-team coach. He worked the first opening for the Turkish side in the fourth minute, sending in a cross which was headed over by Ailton. But three minutes later, Ailton was on target as Bolton were punished for some sloppy defensive play.
Ben Haim put Joey O'Brien under pressure with a bad ball and he lost possession to Tumer Metin, who immediately released Ailton. The Brazilian hit an unstoppable shot into the corner beyond goalkeeper Ian Walker.
Bolton went behind in Bulgaria against Lokomotiv Plovdiv, only to battle back and secure a victory. And last night they showed their fighting spirit again, equalising in the 29th minute following a clinical finish from Mexico striker Borgetti. The summer signing, an iconic figure in his homeland, got on the end of a good cross from Diouf for his second goal for the club. The other came in the first leg against Lokomotiv Plovdiv in the qualifying stages of the Uefa Cup.
It was just the confidence boost that Bolton needed and three minutes later Hidetoshi Nakata found himself clear on the edge of the area for the visitors - only for his effort to be blocked.
Besiktas started the second half in positive mood. Ibrahim Akin tried a shot from 20 yards which went over the crossbar but Bolton hit back with the lively Nakata breaking clear. He tried to pick out Borgetti but the cross was too long and the chance was lost.
Akin and Kleberson tested the Bolton defence, but a 56th-minute counterattack almost paid off for the visitors. Ricardo Gardner and Diouf combined for Diouf to put the ball across the face of the area, but there were no takers.
Kevin Nolan was introduced by Allardyce in the 59th minute for Fabrice Fernandes, who had failed to make an impact. The 23-year-old Bolton midfielder was keen to show what he could do as Bolton kept up the momentum. Diouf found the net with 20 minutes left but his effort was disallowed for offside.
