Bastian Schweinsteiger is plotting a return to Munich with his Manchester United team-mates - for the world famous beer festival, Oktoberfest.

The 31-year-old German World Cup winner (pictured above with ex-girlfriend Sarah Brander in 2013) impressed on his his debut for the club during the 1-0 win against Tottenham after coming on as a substitute.

The £14.4million signing is now hoping to take his new team-mates to the south German city to experience the event.

"I spoke to [Wayne] Rooney and discussed the possibility of me inviting the team to Oktoberfest but I don’t know how much time we’ll have," he told Sky.

Unfortunately for Rooney and the rest of the squad, manager Louis van Gaal may not agree to a move as the festival comes in a relatively busy period for the club.

Oktoberfesr runs from 19 September to 4 October this year. United face Southampton at St Mary's on 20 September, then host Sunderland on 26 September, before travelling to the Emirates for a crunch clash with Arsenal on 4 October.
