Sanchez was later named on the bench, alongside Jack Wilshere who was replaced in the starting XI by Santi Cazorla.
The Gunners will be looking to bounce back from their convincing 2-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday, where a woeful performance could have seen them lose by five or six goals. However, they face an Aston Villa side who have found their form as they remain unbeaten this season, and come into the match off the back of an impressive 1-0 win at Liverpool last Saturday.
Wilshere picked up an ankle injury in the defeat to Dortmund, but it was revealed not to be serious in midweek, although he is dropped to the bench to accommodate a returning Cazorla.
19-year-old Hector Bellerin is dropped from the squad completely as Calum Chambers is named at right-back after recovering from tonsillitis, but Mathieu Flamini misses out as he remains sidelined through injury.
There’s a return to the match-day squad for fit-again midfielder Abou Diaby.
Villa have to make do without captain Ron Vlaar once again, and his replacement for the win over Liverpool last week Nathan Baker is also absent, meaning there is a recall for Ciaran Clark to the starting line-up.
It’s the only change to the side that triumphed at Anfield, and Paul Lambert will hope to add another big scalp to a week that saw him sign a new contract until 2018.
