Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has backed the Premier League leaders to recover from their last-gasp defeat to Arsenal on Sunday.

Jamie Vardy’s opener, from the penalty spot, was cancelled out by Theo Walcott before Danny Welbeck struck in the 95th minute to narrow the gap at the summit to just two points.

The Foxes have just under a fortnight off while their title rivals turn their attention to Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup commitments but Schmeichel insists they won’t dwell on their Emirates heartbreak.

The advantage over the Gunners could have been stretched to eight points had Leicester held onto their lead but now defeat to Norwich City on February 27 could see them toppled.

The Dane told Leicester’s official website: “We have lost just three games this season so we are not going to get bogged down by this, just as we don’t get too ahead of ourselves when we win. It is a loss but we get on with it.

“We are a good team and had it been 11 versus 11 I think we would have gone on to get something, but it wasn’t to be. It is always frustrating when you concede in the last minute and when things go against you like they did today, it is disappointing but we have to just continue.”

Schmeichel says his Leicester team-mates are keeping their feet on the ground after the stunning 3-1 victory over Manchester City saw them placed as favourites to win the title with most bookmakers.

The odds have since widened again following the defeat in north London but the 29-year-old, who has picked up eight clean sheets this term, continues to believe in their unlikely title bid.

“We are a good team. People were probably getting ahead of themselves this week from the outside but we keep going. It is not the end of the world.

“We have bounced back before; we have the character in the camp. We will move on and we will have the same attitude as we do when we win.

“We just focus on us and we have as good a chance as anyone to have a very good season.”
