Fabregas represented the north London side between 2003 and 2011 after being spotted by Cagigao as a 15-year-old.
And the Spanish midfielder took to social media on Friday to pay his respects to Arsenal’s now former head of international recruitment.
“Thank you for the 24+ years of devotion, respect, loyalty and love you gave to @arsenal,” Fabregas wrote on Twitter.
“Nothing would have been the same for me if you didn’t spot me at 15 years old.
“I wish you all the very best for the future. Your next team will be very lucky to have your football brain.”
Arsenal have come under criticism for the decision to make so many redundancies while pushing on with their transfer plans.
Those plans reportedly include signing Chelsea’s Willian on a £100,000-per-week contract.
The Gunners have also been linked with Philippe Coutinho, who would not bring low wages to the Emirates Stadium, and they are trying to ensure that star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang remains at the club – another expensive venture.
