He was nicknamed the non-flying Dutchman due to his fear of aeorplanes, but a new statue will see a flying Dennis Bergkamp erected outside the Emirates Stadium.

Images of a figure have been leaked online which capture the former Arsenal striker in flight during a game against Newcastle in 2003.

While Arsenal have refused to confirm their plans, it is expected that a statue of the player will be placed outside the Gunners' stadium before the start of next season.

A club spokesman is quoted by The Evening Standard as saying: "We currently have statues outside Emirates Stadium commemorating three legends in Arsenal’s history — Herbert Chapman, Tony Adams and Thierry Henry.

"We’re pleased that speculation surrounding a future possible statue is generating interest and will obviously communicate details if and when there is confirmation of any new developments."

Bergkamp scored 120 goals in 423 games before retiring in 2006. He famously missed many European away ties during him time with the Gunners due to his fear of flying.
