Arsene Wenger has admitted his players are not yet "completely physically ready" after seeing his side lose 1-0 to Monaco in the Emirates Cup.

Radamel Falcao scored the only goal of the game at the Emirates and Arsenal now have only Sunday's Community Shield against Manchester City to get ready for the new season.

"Many players has not recovered physically and were not completely ready," said Wenger. "It was a good warning for us that were are not completely ready physically."

Arsenal face Crystal Palace at home in their first game of the new season on 16 August.

New signings Mathieu Debuchy, Alexis Sanchez and Calum Chambers all started for Arsenal and played well, but Olivier Giroud was clearly unfit and had to be taken off at half-time.

"Giroud was not ready at all. He had only three weeks rest and has come back quickly. He has not put weight on and is not out of shape.

"He has worked very hard this week and not recovered."
