Alexis Sanchez sustained a low-grade muscle injury while training with the Chile national team, the country’s football association has confirmed.

The Arsenal forward was forced to withdraw from the session on Tuesday and is now likely to miss Thursday’s World Cup qualifier against Colombia.

Sanchez, who will stay with the national team while the injury is assessed, is also likely to be unavailable for the qualifier against Uruguay on 15 November.

“The medical corps of the Chilean national team informs the player Alexis Sanchez has a low-grade muscle injury,” a statement by the Federación de Fútbol de Chile read.

“The athlete will stay in Santiago, under treatment and in evaluation.”

Sanchez has scored nine goal in 20 appearances for Arsenal so far this season, having spearheaded Arsene Wenger’s frontline.

The north London side currently sit in 4th place in the Premier League table and face an away trip to Manchester United following the current international break.

Arsenal will follow the journey to Old Trafford with a key Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain, which is likely to decide the winner of Group A.
