The Brazil international has fallen down the pecking order at the Nou Camp this season, with new manager Tito Vilanova often preferring either Adriano Correia or Martin Montoya in Alves' prefferred position.
That has led to rumours of a January exit for the 29-year-old, something Arsenal are said to be paying close attention to according to Spanish newspaper AS.
The Gunners are having their own issues at right-back, with Bacary Sagna yet to sign a new deal and his current contract expiring in the summer of 2014. The Frenchman has been linked with a £10m switch to PSG.
Alves would provide an ideal replacement and something of a coup for Arsenal. The pacey full-back has been an integral part of Barcelona's recent success - lifting three league titles and two Champions League trophies in his four-and-a-half years at the club.
