Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Bluebirds have two points from their opening three games on their return to the Premier League but are yet to hit the back of the net. The Gunners earned their first win of the season last time out with victory over West Ham.
Here's everything Emery said ahead of Sunday's clash in Wales:
Progress made during West Ham match?
We are making progress. We have only played three matches. We need to know the communication with the players, so that we can do the high pressing. The same in this game. We improved in the match, during the ninety minutes. We lost the control for moments during the game, but we finished really well. I was happy with the last 20 minutes. I want to continue improving in the next match on Sunday against Cardiff.
Reaction to the Europa League?
The three teams we have to respect. We want to go a big way in this competition. Each match is different with different travel.
Are the long trips difficult?
When you play two matches in one week it is physically different. It is more hard with less time to prepare for the match or to complete physical work. But we want to do that, we want to play in a lot of matches. After the international break we will play a lot of matches. I can ensure we are willing to use a lot of players.
Is Ozil back in training?
He's training normally with the club, in every session this week. He started on Tuesday and has been in training everyday. He's okay.
Are you angry at reports of a bust up?
I know you are a lot of journalists working in the media and I have respect for you, I only have a problem when the news is not true. I have respect for you but when the news isn't true it isn't true.
Latest on Nelson to Hoffenheim?
We think he needs to go because he is very young, he needs to take a new level to play. He needs minutes and the experience. We were speaking with the club and the coaches over the possibility, and with him. And we decided together it is a good chance for him, to get the minutes and then come back to us. And I think he's signing a new contract with us.
There is no possibility anymore will leave.
Has fruit juice been banned?
Yes this is true. I like the fruit juice but not as much when it has a lot of sugar.
Is Torreira close to starting?
I am very happy with the player. The players are working hard every day and making demands of me to start with their work rate. The possibility of him playing with the starting XI is okay, but I am happy with all of the players and how they are working, not just Lucas.
How much of a priority is the Europa League?
The situation is different [than it was at Sevilla]. I have learnt from every moment in my career. And now I want to continue improving, each match I think of as 90 minutes against the opposition. I have respect for the opposition but we look to improve with each match. We think match to match and Sunday is an important match for us. They will be tough at their stadium with their supporters pushing a lot. They will be demanding against us.
