Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The 21-year-old last played on 9 March in the victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford and was initially ruled out for a month - he was due for a return around now but has suffered a further setback and will be out for at least another two weeks.
Arsenal believe the midfielder will play again this season but he is facing an important couple of weeks; if he suffers another setback Arsenal may have no option but to send Oxlade-Chamberlain for surgery.
"It is taking a bit longer than I thought because he has a groin inflammation. It is related to everything before," said Wenger.
"I hope it does not become a long-term problem, but he faces a hurdle this week in training. We will see if he has recovered well.
"The end of this week and the start of next week are important to see if he got rid of that inflammation. It is not his hamstring anymore. It is groin inflammation."
There is good news for the Gunners however, with Wenger stating that he expects Mathieu Debuchy, Jack Wilshere, Mikel Arteta and Abou Diaby to all be fit for the Gunners' Premier League match at Burnley on Saturday.
Laurent Koscielny and Wojciech Szczesny will both face late fitness tests for the game.
