From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh insists he has not agreed a deal to move to Arsenal but admits he is unlikely to remain at the Stade Chaban Delmas once his contract expires at the end of the season.

Chamakh has long been linked with a move away from the Ligue 1 giants and has always professed his desire to move to the Barclays Premier League.

Reports this week suggested the Morocco international had signed a pre-contract agreement with Arsenal, who were one of the clubs which had a bid for the forward turned down last summer.

Gunners manager Arsene Wenger maintained yesterday that no deal has yet been done and Chamakh has reiterated that stance.

"I haven't yet signed at Arsenal," he told French reporters. "But as the days pass I feel less and less a Bordeaux player.

"I've said though that you will be the first ones to know when I sign."

Chamakh was Bordeaux's leading goalscorer last season as he fired them to the league title.

The 26-year-old has scored nine goals so far this season.
