Manchester City and Arsenal will battle for the services of defender Carles Puyol next summer according to reports.

The Barcelona captain is out of contract at the Nou Camp at the end of the season and is allegedly interested in a move abroad.

According to Catalan newspaper Sport, Manchester City, who have been interested in the Spain international for some time, will face competition from Arsenal for his signature.

Arsene Wenger is aware that his back four needs strengthening after the loss of Kolo Toure in the summer and feels that Puyol would bring added experience to his squad.
