Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Arsene Wenger has described his team’s opening goal against Norwich City in the 4-1 victory on Saturday, an incisive passing move finished by Jack Wilshere, as one of Arsenal’s “best goals” which had “nearly everything” you wanted.
Santi Cazorla, Olivier Giroud and Wilshere combined to bamboozle the Canaries defence with rapid passing and movement.
“It was certainly one of the best [Arsenal] goals, one that I enjoyed the most as well because it was a team goal,” the manager told arsenal.com. “It had combinations and the speed which you always like your team to play with, unfortunately it doesn't happen always. This one was a mixture of technical quality, speedy thinking, quick reaction and as wellbeing calm in front of goal. It had nearly everything you want to have, combined speed and calm and relaxed attitude. It was a great goal. I think we have scored some good goals this season already. All the goals were great, but the first was exceptional because it was improvised, combination play.”
The league leaders went two points clear at the top after the win, but Wenger says it is far too early to compare the team with his last great Gunners side – 2004’s Invicibles.
“It is a bit early; we are not at Christmas yet! But honestly we have a good attitude and are hungry, with a good solidarity level. We have quality, but how far we will go is down to how consistent we can be, how much effort we put into every single game and how much we are able not to get into a comfort zone. That is the top level.”
