Your support makes all the difference.West Ham striker Andy Carroll faces another six weeks out after his injury nightmare continued in his side’s 3-1 Premier League win at Bournemouth on Tuesday night.
The 27-year-old suffered a hamstring problem within 12 minutes of the first half at Dean Court, and after lengthy treatment on the pitch, eventually hobbled off in clear discomfort and frustration.
Manager Slaven Bilic revealed that the forward had gone for a scan on Thursday morning, and although the outcome has yet to be confirmed, the preliminary diagnosis is a tear that will mean he is absent until March.
“Carroll has a scan at 10:30am. We will wait for that. It's his hamstring, it's something in between a big and little one.”
The former Newcastle man has been plagued by injuries in recent seasons. A ligament tear in his knee last February kept him out for seven months while previous issues with both his ankle and heel have also meant prolonged periods on the treatment table.
After the game, the player vented his disappointment at this latest injury setback on Twitter.
Carroll has played just 47 times in three seasons at Upton Park, and this latest blow comes just as he was hoping to force his way back into Roy Hodgson’s reckoning with this summer’s European Championships in France on the horizon.
The England international, capped nine times by his country, had scored back-to-back goals in home wins against Southampton and former club Liverpool over the festive period, and started the midweek match on the south coast in lively fashion.
Speaking to the BBC, Bilic admitted: “It's a big blow for us because he started this game good. He was back looking sharp, strong and covering the full pitch.”
Carroll originally joined the Hammers on loan from Anfield in 2012, but made his move permanent the following year for a club record fee of £15m.
