Allardyce sees red over Green's attack on Bolton

Sam Allardyce, the Bolton Wanderers manager, has refused to speak to BBC Radio Five Live in protest at an attack on the club by the commentator Alan Green.

Allardyce withdrew from a Five Live Forum last night after Green's comments that he would not pay money to watch Bolton's "ugly football".

Green hit out at Bolton during commentary and while hosting his phone-in show from the Reebok Stadium following Monday's 2-2 draw against Liverpool.

Allardyce refused to speak to Five Live at his press conference yesterday, blaming Green's outburst. The Bolton manager said: "The comments he made don't deserve me talking about them. The outcry from our supporters is so great I deem it necessary to speak to the chairman about it and probably not speak to Five Live as a result. I'm sure the chairman will back me 100 per cent."

The Liverpool manager, Rafael Benitez, was also critical of Bolton's approach after the bruising encounter and Allardyce admitted that he was dismayed by the criticism he and his club were getting from fellow managers.
