Your support makes all the difference.Bolton Wanderers last night signed the German striker Carsten Jancker in Sam Allardyce's latest remarkable transfer coup.
The giant target man has been playing in Serie A at Udinese, but has agreed to join Wanderers for the rest of the season on loan. Jancker, who made his name with Bayern Munich, could force his way into the Carling Cup final and will give Bolton cover for the in-form Kevin Davies.
Jancker scored Germany's goal in their 5-1 defeat by England two seasons ago, but his career has gone downhill since and he is usually a substitute at Udinese. The 29-year-old has managed only two goals in 33 games in Italy over an 18-month spell.
Allardyce tried to talk Jancker into joining Bolton two years ago, but he chose to stay in Germany and then move to Italy. The striker was also pilloried in Germany before he left, but Allardyce has a good record of restoring players to their best form.
Jancker will allow Davies some respite for the rest of the season. The free-transfer signing from Southampton has been a virtual ever-present and has led the line tirelessly.
Meanwhile, Blackburn have completed the signing of the Norwegian international midfielder Martin Andresen. With Barry Ferguson and David Thompson out with long-term injuries, the Rovers manager, Graeme Souness, has signed the Stabaek player on loan for the rest of the season.
Andresen, the Norwegian player of the year, had a trial with Rovers last month, and impressed enough for the club to make an offer.
