Trailing by two goals at the break, United rallied through a Dimitar Berbatov double and a Javier Hernandez effort to claim a victory that took them five points clear at the Premier League summit.
It was one of those thrilling fightbacks for which United are famed. And Ferguson knows how important such against-the-odds triumphs can be.
"We were in the mire in the first half but this is a result industry and we got a result which may have a big impact on the league at the end of the season," said Ferguson.
"It has told every one of my players they can achieve a lot if we can play to our best."
It took the introductions of Ryan Giggs and Hernandez to change the course of the contest, the latter man's justified introduction for Wayne Rooney merely emphasising how out-of-sorts the England forward appeared from his left wing station.
"We have used Wayne as a wide player many times but he wasn't in the game in the first half," said Ferguson.
"That wasn't his fault but two goals down and 20 minutes into the second half, we had to gamble.
"Javier was that gamble and he made a great impact."
Hernandez levelled two minutes after Berbatov had launched the fightback.
Berbatov then belted home the winner, his 20th goal of the season and his fifth in four days, before 10 minutes of injury-time for treatment to Rafael.
The Brazilian took a heavy blow to the head in an accidental collision with Marlon Harewood and was stretchered off with concussion, the only downside of the evening for Ferguson.
"He has gone to hospital and will have some X-rays," revealed the United chief.
"He has got some concussion but hopefully there is no other damage.
"It was a worrying moment because he is just a kid."
