Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has changed his mind and will not start Adnan Januzaj for the Under-21s tonight.

The Belgian winger returned to the club last week after Borussia Dortmund ended his loan spell six months early, with the 20-year-old failing to start a Bundesliga match.

Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel criticised Januzaj in a parting shot, saying he didn't show the "desire and attitude" to succeed at the club.

Under-pressure Louis van Gaal said he would start Januzaj for the youth team in a bid to get him back up to speed, but has now changed his mind.

"We have reconsidered and we think we have to build him up for the game and not to risk too much by putting him in a match," said Van Gaal.

Januzaj last played on 10 December and is not match fit.

However, with United struggling to score goals and create chances - they had just two shots on target against League One Sheffield United on Saturday - Van Gaal is under pressure to improve results and performances.

Januzaj could yet find himself in the squad to face Newcastle United at St James' Park on Tuesday and Liverpool on Sunday.
