Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The Arsenal trio of Aaron Ramsey, Santi Cazorla and Gedion Zelalem have all signed new contracts with the club.
Ramsey is close to returning to full fitness after suffering a thigh injury which has kept him out since Boxing Day. He endured a setback in his recovery in January. The Welsh midfielder had been Arsenal's standout performer this season up until his injury, scoring 13 goals in all competitions.
The 23-year-old said told arsenal.com: "I'm delighted to have signed a new contract. I've been here for six years and I'm so happy. I think we've shown so far this season what we're all about and the direction that this club wants to go in. I want to be a part of that, and to be a part of something special at Arsenal. We have a great team which we believe can achieve great things."
Cazorla, meanwhile, signed for the club in the summer of 2012 from Malaga, and has scored 16 goals in 61 Premier League matches. The 29-year-old Spanish playmaker was voted Arsenal's Player of the Season for 2012/13. Cazorla says he is confident that Arsenal, who meet Wigan in the FA Cup semi-final on 12 April and are currently four points off Premier League leaders Chelsea, can finally end their nine year trophy drought.
"I think that we can be a big player in competing for the top trophies in years to come," Cazorla said. "I have already had lots of good moments here and hopefully there will be many more to come."
The 17-year-old German youth international Zelalem signs his first professional contract. The midfielder made history when he made his first-team debut for the Gunners in the 4-0 FA Cup win over Coventry, becoming the first player born after manager Arsene Wenger took charge at Arsenal in September 1996 to play for the club.
Wenger said: "We are very pleased that Santi Cazorla, Aaron Ramsey and Gedion Zelalem have committed their futures to the Club. Cazorla and Ramsey are absolutely key players for us, and this news is a boost to the whole club. Gedion is very young of course, but he has shown already that he has fantastic promise, and we all look forward to his development with us."
The Gunners were boosted earlier this month by the news that Per Mertesacker and Tomas Rosicky had also extended their deals at the Emirates Stadium. Although Bacary Sagna, and Wenger himself have still not committed to new deals past the end of the current campaign.
