An own goal from Alex Scott and a brace from Celia Sasic ensured the game was over as a contest before half-time as England’s wait for a first victory against their rivals goes on.
Chelsea have sealed the signing of Liverpool winger Gemma Davidson on a two-year deal. The 27-year-old, who is an England international, will join the Blues on January 1 after opting to leave the WSL Champions and will link up again with coach Emma Hayes after working together at Arsenal.
Bristol Academy will play FFC Frankfurt in the Champions League quarter-final following Wednesday’s draw in Nyon. The Vixens have been rewarded with a tough trip to Germany after beating Barcelona in the previous round, while Glasgow City will host French champions Paris Saint-Germain. Sasic said on Saturday that playing at Wembley would be “something really motivating”, and it certainly showed, with her two goals helping Germany to a comfortable 3-0 win over England. The 26-year-old, who plays her club football with Frankfurt, scored nine goals in eight World Cup qualifiers and will be one of the stars next year in Canada.
Moment of the week
It was expected 55,000 people would attend Sunday’s ground-breaking clash between England and Germany at Wembley and, while the official figures only topped 45,619, this was by some margin a record attendance for an England Women’s international. With only 40,181 attending the men’s game against Norway last month, it was a truly momentous occasion for women in football.

“The players are not silly. They know at this level if you make small errors you are going to be punished. When presented with opportunities [Germany] didn’t look back.” England manager Mark Sampson was frustrated after seeing his side gift Germany victory with several errors.
