From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Second Division club are set to offer £200,000 for the former Scotland international. Winters may take the opportunity to move now rather than join a queue of players looking for a new club in the summer. Wimbledon are also keen on signing Winters, though Stoke are a potentially bigger club and manager Gudjon Thordarson has money to spend to recruit the right players. If registered in time, Winters could make his Stoke debut in Friday's televised match against their promotion rivals Brighton.
Bradford City have signed Danny Cadamarteri on a three-and-a-half year contract. The 22-year-old, who scored on his debut in the 4-0 win over Gillingham on Saturday, had signed a short-term deal until the end of the season, but the Bantams' manager Nicky Law has moved quickly to ensure that the former Everton striker stays at Valley Parade.
City's chairman Geoffrey Richmond said: "I am delighted we have been able to get Danny to sign for us so soon. We did not want to run the risk of losing him in the summer. His arrival at the club has given everyone a lift."
The Wimbledon goalkeeper Paul Heald will stay on loan with Sheffield Wednesday until the end of the season. The 33-year-old has made a good impression in his six matches for Wednesday after making his debut in the Worthington Cup semi-final second leg against Blackburn. He will remain as back-up for Kevin Pressman, who has returned from an ankle injury.
The former Wednesday manager Peter Shreeves has been unveiled as the new head coach of the Nationwide Conference side Barnet. Shreeves has been out of work since resigning from his Hillsborough post in October and takes over from John Still. The former Reading assistant manager and Queen's Park Rangers, West Ham and Portsmouth midfielder Martin Allen, 36, becomes Barnet's first-team coach while Paul Wilson will be assistant coach.
The Crystal Palace defender Gregg Berhalter, who has started just 10 First Division matches for the club, has denied demanding a transfer from Selhurst Park. The United States international was recalled to the Eagles' defence for last Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United despite being transfer-listed two weeks ago by manager Trevor Francis.
"I had nothing to do with that," he said. "The gaffer told me I wasn't in his plans and that he was putting me on the list. He likes a certain type of player and I'm not the ideal type for him."
"I was pleased to be in the team on Saturday, but it was one of our worst performances. My situation doesn't matter – it's more important the team wins."
Peter Storrie has resigned as executive deputy chairman at Notts County. He joined the Magpies in the summer of 2000 along with the American Albert Scardino, who remains a director at the club.
