From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Tottenham's club-record signing scored a 'rabona' goal from outside the box, a shot where one foot wraps around the outside of the other to produce a curling shot. Few try it, and even less see it fly into the top corner. But that's exactly what happened after 29 minutes of the Europa League match at White Hart Lane.
Speaking after the 5-1 win Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino even said it was perhaps the best he had ever seen.
"One time I scored one goal like that myself," Pochettino said, laughing. "You will find it on YouTube.
"No, it was a very big goal, a great goal, an unbelievable goal. I am happy for him and it helped us to get the three points.
"Maybe it is the best [by one of my players ever]. Probably."

However, whilst Pochettino was joking about YouTube and having never seen a goal of such quality, a video has come to light showing a 17-year-old Lamela scoring rabona in a River Plate youth game.
Questions were asked about the £30m Tottenham paid for Lamela, but last night's goal alone was almost worth the fee alone.
