From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Manchester United, under new manager Louis van Gaal continued their fine form in pre-season with a 3-1 victory over rivals Liverpool in Miami.

United won the International Champions Cup with the triumph.

Steven Gerrard gave Liverpool the lead from the penalty spot, before Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata and Jess Lingard scored for United at the Sun Life Stadium.

Van Gaal said afterwards that the victory stands them in good stead for the start of their Premier League campaign.

"This will give us momentum, for sure.

"It's always better to win. First we beat Roma, then we beat Inter Milan with penalties but we were much better, then we beat Madrid and then we had a test against a Premier League team."

United still have one more pre-season game before the season starts - against Valencia at Old Trafford next Tuesday. Liverpool warm-up against Borussia Dortmund at Anfield on Sunday.
