Putting the boot in
Australian Craig Johnston, who designed and created the Adidas Predator football boot, has stuck it into the debate over the Jabulani. The former Liverpool striker has written a 12-page letter of complaint to Sepp Blatter, saying the ball could "ruin the game as we now know it". His old chums at Adidas can't be best pleased, not least because the space agency Nasa yesterday added their name to the list of critics, saying the ball behaves weirdly after it passes 44mph.

Bosses at ITV presumably can't wait for all this to be over. First their HD viewers missed England's first goal; then Robbie Earle got sacked and Edgar Davids misbehaved. But with Jim Beglin falling ill with an ear infection just before the first semi-final, they must think they're cursed.
