From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Stoke striker Ricardo Fuller was arrested by police this morning on suspicion of a motoring offence, the club have confirmed.

The 29-year-old striker, who is currently working his way back to fitness after dislocating his shoulder against Sunderland on February 7, was stopped by officers close to the Potters' training ground.

In a brief statement the club said: "The club can confirm that striker Ricardo Fuller has this morning been arrested by Staffordshire Police for a motoring offence.

"We will be making no further comment at this time."

According to the Stoke Sentinel, Fuller was absent from training at the club's Michelin Sports ground in Trent Vale and a Staffordshire Police spokeswoman said a 29-year-old man was being held at the force's Northern Area Custody suite, in Etruria, in relation to driving offences.

Supt Bernie O'Reilly, of Stoke-on-Trent police division, told the paper: "At about 9.30am this morning in Riverside Road, Trent Vale, a 29-year-old man driving a vehicle was stopped by officers.

"As a result of their enquiries, his vehicle was seized and he was arrested for driving licence and vehicle insurance offences and taken to Northern Area Custody Facility where he will be interviewed today."
