From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

While the Arsenal gents may be on the verge of a seventh successive season without getting their hands near silverware, and were on the wrong end of an 8-2 thrashing at Old Trafford yesterday, it's a different scenario altogether for their female counterparts.
Arsenal Ladies yesterday lifted the inaugural Women's Super League trophy, echoing one of the most glorious times in the club's history by winning by two clear goals away at Liverpool to seal the title. Since Arsène Wenger's beleaguered side last won a trophy in 2005, Arsenal Ladies have amassed a mighty 13 major honours, including the women's equivalent of the Champions' League in 2007. Maybe they have a stronger squad...
The Bad: Freak mishap ends Tate season
Our condolences go out to the Swansea defender Alan Tate, who may be sidelined for the rest of the season after breaking his leg yesterday afternoon in what the club have described as a "bizarre golfing accident".
The 28-year-old was a passenger in a buggy at a South Wales golf club when it "lost control", a club statement read. Tate was then taken to hospital and diagnosed with a broken left tibia.
Tate is not the only Premier League footballer to suffer an injury in freak circumstances partaking in every player's main hobby, other than the Playstation that is. Kasey Keller, when at Leicester City in 1998, knocked out his front teeth while pulling his golf clubs out of the boot of his car.
The Odd: Jonah calls out Sonny Bill
Hard-as-nails All Blacks great, Jonah Lomu, has challenged Sonny Bill Williams, the New Zealand centre and part-time pro pugilist, to step into the ring with him. Lomu, now 36, wanted to fight Williams earlier in the year, but was not seen as a credible opponent by Williams' aides, who instead decided on a 43-year-old Tongan who was claiming sickness benefits. "I think they showed a lack of respect," an angry Lomu said. "I'm not a boxer, so I'm not prepared to say what I think of him as a fighter, but my advice to Sonny Bill Williams – if he took the challenge – would be: 'Enter the ring at your peril'."
