This week has seen more upsets than my stomach during that pre-season trip to play Bombay Argyle. The shock of the round in the FA Cup was Blackburn's triumph at the Emirates. It was a real David v Goliath clash but what people forget is that David actually had an excellent win ratio against the big man. The League Cup final tomorrow between League Two Bradford and Welsh giants Swansea is another being labelled David and Goliath so one can only hope the referee stamps down on any use of slingshots.
Lowly Milan's win against Barcelona was another massive shock. It really was heartening to see a team that hasn't won the Champions League in over five years play in such a big competition. The goals came courtesy of two ex-Portsmouth players but we all know that's long been a breeding ground for phenomenal talent – just ask Linvoy Primus.
Things went better for Goliath on Tuesday as Bayern got that crucial third away goal and won 3-1 at Arsenal. They must have been delighted by Arsène Wenger's decision to field a weakened team: the regular starting XI. Now he has to try and find a way back – ideally to 2004.
Celebrity Gooner Piers Morgan supports his team through thick and thick and immediately took to the radio to call for Wenger's head. I know what it's like to have a talk show host state that you're not good enough. Parkinson did it during my time at Barnsley; Wossy did it when I played for Orient; Letterman had a pop when I played for the New York Red Bulls. I also know what the icy judgement of Morgan feels like – he said I was a disgrace to the Arsenal shirt when I did my Thierry Henry impression on Britain's Got Talent.
