The Jamaican international Luton Shelton has joined from the Swedish club Helsingborg for in the region of £2m, with the Senegal defender Mamadou Seck signing a two-and-a-half-year deal after his free transfer from Le Havre. But striker Neil Shipperley, who has not played this season, has had his contract terminated by mutual consent.
The Wigan defender Andy Webster has been given the go-ahead to join Rangers on loan by the Scottish Football Association. The 24-year-old had agreed a deal until it emerged that his former club Hearts still held his registration. However, the SFA cancelled this after consultation with Fifa.
Alex McLeish heads a "short" all-Scottish list of candidates to replace Walter Smith as the Scotland manager after a meeting of the SFA's board of directors yesterday. It is understood that McLeish, is the No 1 choice, ahead of Tommy Burns, Jim Jefferies, Gary McAllister, Craig Levein and Joe Jordan.
Paris St-Germain have appointed Paul Le Guen as their new coach after sacking Guy Lacombe. Le Guen, 42, left his job as manager of Rangers by mutual consent this month.
Harry Redknapp, meanwhile, has hinted that his technical director at Portsmouth, Avram Grant, may leave in the summer to join Chelsea. The manager said yesterday: "If Avram wants to go, it will be his decision."
Grant, a former Israel national coach, has been linked with an advisory coaching role at Chelsea to help their struggling £31m striker, Andrei Shevchenko.
