From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The broadcaster has secured the rights to 38 top-flight games from next season, including 18 of the top picks, and have been busy recruiting some of the biggest names to make sure everyone knows about it.
The Manchester United striker will join fellow PFA Player of the Year nominee Gareth Bale, while Arsenal youngster Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has also been signed up to appear in the broadcaster's commercials.
Van Persie, who this week returns to the Emirates for the first time since his £24m transfer from Arsenal, scored a hat-trick against Aston Villa on Monday to move top of the Premier League goal-scoring charts. His three goals also saw United clinch the title.
Oxlade-Chamberlain, who will be a BT Ambassador for the next three years, said: "I am very pleased to be named as a BT Ambassador and to feature in the adverts and as a guest for BT Sport.
"As a young player, I hope I can bring some real insight into the Premier League, as part of the BT Sport team."
As well as Premier League games, BT Sport will also show matches from Serie A in Italy, Ligue 1 in France, Brasileiro in Brazil, Major League Soccer in the USA, Scottish Premier League games and the Bundesliga in Germany. Europa League and FA Cup matches will also be among their portfolio.
