From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Despite his current contract impasse with Liverpool, Raheem Sterling has a reason to stay in Merseyside after all - his £1.5m mansion in Stockport has a barber shop, an indoor swimming pool and even a five-a-side pitch.

The 20-year-old said that because he is asked so often for selfies, having a barber shop in his house was a necessity.

"In the evenings I prefer to stay home," he told the Sunday Times.

"If I go out I'm always asked for selfies, so I've spent money making my house a fun place. I've got an indoor swimming pool, a half-basketball court, a games room and my own barber's area.

"My girlfriend usually cooks dinner and it will be something like barbecue ribs or chicken wings. Friends come round and we download movies or play Fifa.

"The best part of earning so much is spending it on my family. I bought my mum a beautiful house in Jamaica last year, and it was lovely to see her so excited."

Sterling has rejected a new £100k per week contract with the club, and says he will speak over his future again in the summer.
