Parma linked with move for striker Yorke

The Sunday People says Dwight Yorke is heading for the Italian Serie A club Parma after Manchester United ruled out a move to another top Premiership club for the striker. He could still go to Middlesbrough if Steve McClaren, the former No 2 at United, can raise the £7m they want, although the paper reckons Boro would first have to sell goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer for £4m, though the Mail on Sunday's report of an £8m Boro offer for West Ham's Michael Carrick contradicts the notion that McClaren has no cash.

The People further reports that West Ham's Paolo Di Canio will be a United player "in the next 48 hours" and that United will also snap up the Argentinian striker Diego Forlan for £6m from Independiente. The Sunday Mirror reckons Sunderland may also enter the bidding for Yorke after Peter Reid was told by Leeds that Alan Smith was not for sale.

According to the Mail on Sunday, meanwhile, West Ham have identified Parma's former Aston Villa front man Savo Milosevic as their target to replace Di Canio. Milosevic was lined up for a move to Blackburn before Graeme Souness swooped instead for United's Andy Cole. The same paper says Tottenham could soon be ready to make a firm bid for Sunderland's Kevin Phillips as Ajax prepare to make an £8m offer for the Norwegian front man Steffen Iversen. The People says the West Ham midfielder Trevor Sinclair, often linked with a move to Sunderland, wants his club to lower their £10m valuation.

Watford have made an inquiry about the Tottenham midfielder Steffen Freund, according to the Mirror, with Glenn Hoddle reportedly telling Gianluca Vialli he would need to raise £3m. The News of the World links Tottenham and Aston Villa with possible moves for the England midfielder Nick Barmby if the one-time Spurs player is part of a predicted Liverpool clear-out in the summer. Igor Biscan and Vladimir Smicer are also earmarked to leave, the story says. The Mirror says Liverpool are monitoring Villa's unsettled England defender Gareth Barry.

While the News of the World says West Ham's Glenn Roeder is making a fresh move to tie up a £300,000 deal for Newcastle's Rob Lee, the Mirror says Everton would let Newcastle have the unsettled midfielder Thomas Gravesen for £4.5m if Lee was thrown in as part of the deal. The Mirror also claims the bargain-hunting Merseysiders are also looking at Birmingham's Bryan Hughes.

The People says Roy Hodgson, the former Internazionale, FC Copenhagen, Blackburn and Udinese coach who made his name as Switzerland's coach, is poised to return to international football in charge of the Austrian national side. The News of the World believes the former Everton and Manchester City manager Joe Royle could take over at Sheffield Wednesday at the season's end.

Southampton could land Chelsea's Jody Morris for £4m, the Mirror reports, suggesting also that the Crystal Palace marksman Clinton Morrison, rated at £10m by the Selhurst Park club, was watched by Arsenal in Saturday's Cup tie at Newcastle.
