One Direction singer Louis Tomlinson incurs 1D fans' wrath on debut for Doncaster Rovers' reserves

The Keepmoat had not borne witness to this kind of hysteria since Dennis Priestley's darts exhibition there four years ago. There were thousands of noisy, smartphone-wielding fans, from places as far as Denmark and the US, outside the stadium hours before kick-off for Doncaster Rovers reserves' match against their Rotherham counterparts. They were there for one reason: to witness the debut of One Direction heart-throb Louis Tomlinson.

Their hero started on the bench. But on 65 minutes, the self-confessed "hit and miss" right-back (some say he only runs in, erm, one direction) came on as a Doncaster substitute for Jordan Binns.

While both clubs' regular players may think a pop star has no right to be on a professional football pitch, it was for a good cause. The reason for Tomlinson signing a non-contract deal with Rovers is to raise money for the Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice and the game attracted a crowd of 5,333.

The result? 0-0. Not that it mattered, as many were clearly miffed at Tomlinson's failure to stick around post-match. Their reaction to his swift departure was priceless. Chants of "you little shit" from his followers rang in his ears as he made his way towards the exit.
