From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Move over Cilla Black, there is a new matchmaker in town.

A couple met through commenting on the Facebook page of Lukas Podolski, the Arsenal forward on loan at Inter Milan, and are now getting married.

On Valentine's Day, the German striker received a message from a Brazilian woman saying that she had met a German man through his Facebook page back in November, and now they are getting hitched. The message read:"Thank you Lukas Podolski because maybe if you didn't post that message I would never have met the man of my life!"

Read the full message, which Podolski posted on his Instagram page, below:

Podolski added the caption to the picture: "I'm glad for being the Cupid of this beautiful relationship, I wish you two lots happiness, joy and longevity. Enjoy your love for the rest of your lives. All the best #PoldiMatch.com #Cupid #LoveStory."

The German international has not had the same success for Inter Milan on the pitch since joining the Italians on loan in January, however, failing to score in his seven appearances for them.
