Malouda urges return of Hiddink
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Florent Malouda believes Guus Hiddink has the attributes needed to succeed at Chelsea, should the Dutchman return to manage the club, having worked wonders during his short spell in charge in 2009.
Chelsea are seeking a new man at the helm, following Carlo Ancelotti's exit at the end of the Premier League season. Hiddink, who is currently coach of Turkey's national team, worked at Stamford Bridge for four months until May 2009 and helped Chelsea to win the FA Cup final.
The Dutchman is among the bookies' favourites to succeed Ancelotti and Malouda for one would love to have him back. "I have a lot of respect for him," the French midfielder said yesterday. "When he came we were in a difficult situation in terms of results. He brought back confidence, I think. He improved our game and led us in the Champions League and FA Cup.
"He put the club back on the right way. It was short-term. It was really quick, but it was really intense. You have to take your time to make the right choices and that is what the board is doing. I think we have a strong squad and when you want to add an ingredient to the squad you have to take your time," Malouda added.
