Henderson has drawn praise for his improvement this season following a tough start to life with Liverpool, and he has emerged from the shadow of Steven Gerrard to stand-out in the Reds’ midfield during the current campaign.
Brendon Rodgers has recognised Henderson for upping his performance this term, and with two years left to run on his current deal once the season ends, the Anfield hierarchy look ready to tie down the England midfielder to a long-term contract.
Since his £16m move from Sunderland in 2011, Henderson has struggled to produce a run of good form despite featuring regularly, perhaps due to the large expectation that surrounded his emergence in the Premier League.
However, he looked a player transformed this season, and stepped up to take a more attacking role in the side when captain Gerrard was ruled out through injury in December, with the 23-year-old going through a purple patch that has seen him return to Roy Hodgson’s England side.
Henderson has featured in every match for Liverpool this season, demonstrating Rodgers belief that he is beginning to come of age, and it appears that a new deal to keep him on Merseyside for the foreseeable future looks to be on the horizon.
