The Liverpool legend was presented during half-time of the Los Angeles club's match against Toronto at the StubHub Center.
He will be eligible to play in Major League Soccer from Wednesday and is likely to make his debut next Saturday in a friendly against Club America.
The 35-year old said: "I can't wait to get my boots on and play in front of you guys.
"I wish I could play tonight. The first game just can't come quick enough. I'm really looking forward to a successful future and I'm happy.
"Bruce (Arena, head coach) and the players and staff have already made me feel very welcome, I feel settled and I'm looking forward to playing with the guys."
The former Liverpool captain amassed 504 appearances during his time with the Reds and netted 120 goals.
He won two FA Cups, one UEFA Cup and the Champions League in 2005 where he scored in perhaps the best final ever.
With his wife Alex watching from the stands, Gerrard thanked the club and fans for making him and his family feel welcome and decided to return the favour.
The former England international wrote a letter to the Galaxians saying: "As a token of my appreciation for what you do for the club, I wanted to provide you with some refreshments for the 4th of July."
The Galaxy enjoyed their national holiday as they beat the Canadian side 4-0 with a hat-trick by former Tottenham Hotspur player Robbie Keane.
His former colleague at Liverpool praised his new teammates: "We already have a good team here, full of good players, so I can add a bit to that and the future is good."
The MLS team is now third in the Western Conference just one point behind Vancouver Whitecaps and leaders Seattle Sounders.
