From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Leicester City have terminated the contracts of Tom Hopper, Adam Smith and James Pearson after they appeared in a sex tape using racist language during an end-of-season tour, the Premier League club have announced.

Pearson, 22 – son of Leicester manager Nigel Pearson – striker Hopper, 21, and goalkeeper Smith, 22, could be seen in the video naked along with more than one woman during the club's recent tour of Thailand.

During the footage, allegedly shared with friends back in the UK and obtained by the Mirror, one of footballers can be heard calling one of the woman a “slit eye”.

A club statement read: "Leicester City Football Club has notified Tom Hopper, Adam Smith and James Pearson that their contracts with the club have been terminated.

"The decision follows the conclusion of an internal investigation and disciplinary proceedings, as a consequence of events that took place during the Club’s end-of-season goodwill tour of Thailand.

"Leicester City Football Club is acutely aware of its position, and that of its players, as a representative of the city of Leicester, the Premier League, the Football Association and the Club’s supporters. It is committed to promoting a positive message of community and family values and equality, and to upholding the standards expected of a Club with its history, tradition and aspirations.

"The Club will make no further comment on the investigation, its finding or outcomes."
