A star of the Mexican premier league is facing a heavy ban after he was seen biting an opponent.

Club Tijuana star Juan Arango went unpunished by referee Cesar Ramos after sinking his teeth into Monterrey player Jesus Zavela during a thriller that ended with visitors Monterrey winning 4-3.

Arango had earlier drawn his side level to make it 2-2 with a brilliant curling free-kick before the top of the table club shipped two goals to slip to a defeat.

The bite by Arango, 34, was not seen by the referee but was picked up by TV cameras.

Arango, a veteran with 121 international caps, spent 10 years in Europe with Real Mallorca and Borussia Monchengladbach.
