Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Arsenal left-back Andre Santos has moved back to Brazil on loan at Gremio until the end of the season.
Santos has become third-choice left-back at the club behind Kieran Gibbs and recent signing Nacho Monreal and has been criticised by Arsenal fans for some poor displays since joining from Fenerbahce for £6.8m in August 2011. He also received an angry reaction from supporters for swapping shirts with former team-mate Robin van Persie at half-time of Arsenal's 2-1 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford in November.
"I came to be a champion with the club," Santos told Gremio's website as he arrived in Brazil.
Davies: It was a no-brainer to come back to Forest
Billy Davies, back in charge of Nottingham Forest for the second time, has described the Championship side, who sit in 13th place in the table, as "underachievers".
"There is so much more they can do," he said. The 48-year-old, who was sacked as manager of the club in 2011, was also complimentary about the club's new owners yesterday. "I've got to say that having spoken to Fawaz [Al-Hasawi] and the board and listened to the energy and enthusiasm of the man, [the decision to take the job] was a no-brainer for me."
Davies' first game will be the home league match against Bolton on Saturday.
Diouf abuse case reopens at Millwall
Millwall last night vowed to reopen an investigation into allegations of racial abuse aimed at Leeds' El-Hadji Diouf in a Championship match at The Den in November.
TV footage shown by Sky Sports as part of an investigation into racism in the game showed Diouf being racially abused. The Millwall chief executive, Andy Ambler, said: "Like all Millwall fans and football fans generally, we're appalled by the footage we've seen."
Carlo Ancelotti: I want to stay at PSG
Carlo Ancelotti is determined to remain as Paris Saint-Germain coach despite rumours that he will be replaced by the Ligue 1 leaders in the summer.
Ancelotti was speaking ahead of tonight's Champions League last-16 first leg at Valencia, where they will be without defender Thiago Silva and midfielder Thiago Motta due to injury.
"The club will decide if they are happy or not with my work," he said. "If the club are happy, and me too, we will continue."
