From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Gary Lineker has held talks with BT Sport about presenting their Champions League coverage next season.

Sources close to the discussions have confirmed the talks are ongoing about a possible deal which would allow the former England striker to keep working for the BBC as well.

The 54-year-old is currently the lead presenter of the BBC's Match of the Day but was also one of the main presenters for the London 2012 Olympics coverage, the Commonwealth Games plus Sports Personality of the Year.

BT Sport are keen to sign a high-profile frontman for the start of their Champions League coverage in September, after winning the UEFA contract from Sky and ITV.

The BBC face a battle to keep their Premier League highlights deal for Match of the Day with ITV also understood to be bidding for the highlights rights from 2016 to 2019. The outcome of the tender is expected to be announced in early February.

According to Broadcast magazine, the BBC are prepared to be flexible over Lineker's future. BT Sport and the BBC refused to comment.
