From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Here is the most expensive footballer in history, Gareth Bale, gearing up for new season by performing an incredible basketball trick shot.

The Welshman, who moved to Real for £86m in the summer of 2013, has posted this video to his Instagram account, of him showing incredible accuracy by scooping a basketball into the hoop with his back to the net.

Bale is currently on holiday in the States. He has been linked with a sensational move back to the Premier League this summer and sign for Manchester United, though he has agent claimed back in May that he would be staying at the Bernabeu despite a frustrating season in May, in which he was hounded by the Real fans.

"Real Madrid are the number one club in the world," Jonathan Barnett said. "There's always interest in him - but as far as we are concerned he'll be at Real Madrid next summer."
