From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

International clearance for the transfers of Steve Davis, Kyle Lafferty, Jamie Ness, Steven Whittaker and Steven Naismith has been put on hold as the Rangers newco continues to dispute the players' status.
Several Ibrox players rejected the chance to transfer their contracts from Rangers to Charles Green's Sevco consortium. Green rejects the claim the players are free agents but the quintet have all joined clubs.
The Scottish FA cannot complete the international transfer clearance until it is signed by all parties, but the association to which the players are affiliated can request temporary registration to allow the player to play during the arbitration period.
Clark signs Lovenkrands for Birmingham
Peter Lovenkrands has become Lee Clark's first signing as Birmingham manager, subject to a medical.
The 32-year-old Danish forward has agreed personal terms on his Bosman free transfer to St Andrew's. Clark took the reins from Chris Hughton last month.
Lovenkrands' move has been made possible after City's transfer embargo was finally lifted by the Football League last Wednesday, having been placed on the club in March for not filing their 2010-11 accounts on time.
The Denmark international was released by Newcastle earlier this summer, having scored 26 goals in 85 appearances for the Magpies over two spells since 2009.
Martins joins Spurs coaching staff
Tottenham have appointed Luis Martins as first team coach, the club have announced.
Martins has previously worked at Sporting Lisbon, where he oversaw the Under-17 and Under-19 sides and was also the club's assistant coach in 2004-05, and Braga.
Last year the Portuguese travelled to Saudi Arabia to work with the national and Olympic teams. Martins will work beneath manager Andre Villas-Boas, who has yet to recruit his No 2.
