From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Tottenham have confirmed that an 81-year-old fan died after suffering a heart attack at last night's match with West Brom.

The supporter suffered a cardiac arrest at the Barclays Premier League match and was transferred to hospital after being treated by medics inside White Hart Lane.

"The club can confirm that an 81-year-old male fan suffered a heart attack at last night's Premier League match against West Bromwich Albion," a spokesman told Press Association Sport.

"We have since received confirmation that he later died in hospital.

"Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time."

Jermain Defoe scored the only goal in the 1-0 defeat of West Brom and led the tributes on Twitter, writing: "RIP to [the] Spurs fan that sadly passed away at last night's game. Condolences to all his family!"

Rafael van der Vaart echoed the striker's sentiments, while midfielder Jake Livermore added: "Terrible news of a fan last night who lost his life at White Hart Lane. R.I.P. Our thoughts go out [to] your family."
