From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Football Association have granted the extension to next Thursday after both teams reached the Champions League final, with club officials required to travel to Moscow to plan for the showpiece later this month.
Patrice Evra was at the centre of the ugly confrontation when United's reserves and substitutes were warming-down after the 2-1 defeat to Chelsea.
He was pictured clashing with Chelsea ground staff after a row thought to be sparked by United's players using the penalty area.
Yet to be resolved is whether Evra was abused in the lead up to the incident, with Carlos Tevez being quoted as saying his team-mate received a "grave insult".
The FA have requested Chelsea's CCTV footage of the incident and want to gather "all relevant information" before deciding what action to take.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson said earlier this week that his club have sent a report to Soho Square.
"We've filed a report, sent it to the FA and we're delighted with that," he said.
Victory for Chelsea, courtesy of Michael Ballack's two goals, put the clubs level on points at the top of the table heading into the penultimate weekend of the Barclays Premier League.
