From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Southampton’s Jay Rodriguez and Adam Lallana will win their first caps for England tonight against Chile, and will make the starting line-up according to reports.

Both players have been in outstanding form for the Saints this season, with Mauricio Pochettino’s side deservedly sitting in third place in the Premier League. Lallana is so confident of his making his debut for the national team he has even had the St George's Cross stitched into his boots to wear tonight, complete with the caption: "Cap No 1".

It could have been three Southampton players in Roy Hodgson’s starting XI against Chile if Rickie Lambert was fit. The striker, who has scored in two of his three international caps, will miss the match at Wembley with a minor muscle injury.

It is the first time the forward Rodriguez, who has appeared for England at Under-21 level, has been called up to the senior squad, while winger Lallana was in the squad to face Ukraine last year, but did not play.

Frank Lampard will lead out the team as captain.
