From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who today celebrates his birthday, has offered an insight into his seduction technique in a new advert for a French telecommunications company.

However, things don't turn out too well for the 31-year-old who dated super-model Irina Shayk for five years.

From a Paris apartment the Real Madrid forward spots a young woman reading a book through a window on the opposite side of the street. So obviously Ronaldo starts making eyes at his neighbour, raises his eyebrow, offers a grin and then starts taking his clothes off. But there's a twist! We won't spoil it for you though, instead you can watch it yourself below...

Ronaldo said the advert for SFR was his last and that the experience had been "amazing".

Judging by the reaction, Ronaldo might want to consider an acting career when his playing days are over.

Ronaldo's Real Madrid side are next in action on Sunday when they play Granada in La Liga.
