Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Speaking after Arsenal's goalless draw with Chelsea, Carragher said that the Gunners need an inventive "centre fireworks" striker if they are to fight for the Premier League title next season, more like his former team-mate Luis Suarez than Olivier Giroud.
Carragher hopes the term will enter the footballing lexicon like the "false 9".
The 37-year-old later explained the new term to his 572 Twitter followers.
Former Arsenal great Thierry Henry also appeared to criticise Giroud after the game, saying Arsenal need a "top, top striker".
"I think they need to buy four players - they need that spine. They need a goalkeeper, they still need a centre back, they still need a holding midfielder and, I'm afraid, they need a top, top quality striker to win this league again.
"You had the best example with Chelsea here today. They were struggling last season to win the league. They went on to buy [Thibaut] Cortouis, [Nemanja] Matic, Cesc [Fabregas] and [Diego] Costa.
"For me, that speaks volumes and you saw it today - a team didn't and a team did, and they are about to win the league again."
