Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

"Good evening, good afternoon – I'm not sure what it is at the moment," Beckham said after the Major League Soccer match. The Wizards won through goals from Josh Wolff and Davy Arnaud less than two minutes apart in the second half and extended Los Angeles' run of matches without a win to 12 games.
Beckham, who arrived in Kansas City on Friday, missed a free kick badly – leading to boos from the crowd – and did not have much of an impact on the outcome. "Obviously, it's tough because I'm trying to get back into the time zone and didn't sleep well last night, which didn't help," said Beckham, who played the entire game. "It's something that I've got used to. It's tough at times, especially when I don't have many games before I play again."
In the Netherlands, Steve McClaren's FC Twente were denied victory when 81st-minute substitute Joel Tshibamba salvaged a last-gasp 1-1 draw for NEC Nijmegen. Eljero Elia looked to have earned McClaren's team all three points with the opening goal just before the half-hour mark. But 19-year-old forward Tshibamba clinched a dramatic point for the visitors with just a minute left on the clock.
