Luis Suarez today took his tally to 30 goals in the Premier League this season thanks to his 11th minute strike in Liverpool's 3-2 win over Norwich.

As the player said himself after the match, it was the maximum points for Liverpool that took them five points clear of second place Chelsea that was the most important thing, but the Uruguayan was still delighted to hit the 30 mark.

"(The 30 goals) is important for myself but my target is to help the team every time," he said after today's match. "We are on the top now and we enjoy that."

Suarez becomes just the seventh player in Premier League history to hit 30 goals in a single season.

The most recent was Robin van Persie, who hit 30 in his final season at Arsenal in the 2011/12 campaign.

The others to have reached the mark are Cristiano Ronaldo, Thierry Henry, Kevin Phillips and Andy Cole. Meanwhile Alan Shearer achieved it three times - all while at Blackburn.

Suarez's achievement is all the more remarkable for it not having included a single penalty. The only other player to have scored 30 or more goals with none coming from the spot is Andy Cole.

It it the former Newcastle striker who holds the record, jointly with Alan Shearer, for the most in a Premier League season with 34. With Liverpool still to play three games this term as they chase down a first title since 1990, seeing Suarez pass that mark wouldn't come as a huge surprise.

THE 30 CLUB...

Andy Cole (Newcastle United) - 34 - 1993/94

Alan Shearer (Blackburn Rovers) - 31 - 1993/94

Alan Shearer (Blackburn Rovers) - 34 - 1994/95

Alan Shearer (Blackburn Rovers) - 31 - 1995/96

Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United) - 31 - 2007/08
